Today I was spending time with our Johnes herd, a group of goats who have an incurable illness that prevents them from living with the rest of our goats and will ultimately be fatal. These goats could not be sweeter or more loving and I was overcome with so much grief thinking about losing them, imaging their lives being cut short by this horrible disease, picturing walking out to their barn and not seeing their perfect faces or hearing their voices anymore.
