Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS) did it again, as both the occupants are safe after their Cirrus SR22T aircraft (N927CS) crashed into the Bellevue neighborhood in Washington. How does the Cirrus Parachute System Work? Inside the fuselage of the Cirrus is an 80 foot diameter parachute. In the event of an engine failure over water or high ground where you can’t guarantee a safe landing, you pull a red handle in the cockpit ceiling. Fun fact: all @cirrusaircraft have a parachute. I'm not talking about for the pilots, I mean for the PLANE! Cirrus is first & currently only company in the industry to include a whole airframe parachute as standard equipment on all certified aircraft models. The rocket-propelled parachute can be deployed when the plane is 600 feet in the air to lower the entire aircraft to the ground in an emergency.
