In April 1971, first President of Uganda and the Kabaka of Buganda Edward Mutesa II was laid to rest at Kasubi Royal Tombs. Mutesa died while in exile in London in 1969 under mysterious circumstances. President Idi Amin ordered that his body should be returned for a state funeral, ironically Amin was the one who led a military attack on the Kabaka’s palace in 1966 during which the Kabaka narrowly escaped being captured and killed. | History of Uganda

Edward Mutesa became the first President of newly independent Uganda. He was deposed in 1966 when the Prime Minister Milton Obote promoted himself to the Presidency and ordered an attack on the Kabaka's palace at Mengo.
