Earth-facing sunspot blasts powerful M4.4-class solar flare
Sunspot AR4618 erupted with an M4.4-class solar flare causing a coronal mass ejection (CME) that may give Earth a glancing blow. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory captured the fireworks in multiple wavelengths. 🌞 📰 Sun news for April 15, 2024: Solar activity surge? high number of sunspot regions and filaments 🌶️ 🫑 🌞 The sun is peppered with sunspot groups, and filaments line the disk, poking out into space as prominences. All this goes along with an overall increase in activity. The flare-related sun activity remains at moderate levels. Filaments across the sun have erupted, or at least an attempt has been made. 🌋 GOES X-ray monitor recorded four small-size M flares (less than M5), and Solar Dyna

🚨 Solar Flare Alert: Sunspot AR3883 Unleashes an X-Class Flare On November 7, 2024, the Sun emitted an intense X2.3 solar flare from active sunspot AR3883, peaking at 13:40 UTC. This powerful burst of radiation caused brief radio blackouts over the Atlantic. Fortunately, it appears the flare did not trigger a significant coronal mass ejection (CME), sparing Earth from magnetic disruptions. However, with Solar Cycle 25 in an active phase, more solar activity could follow, potentially enhancing a

Sunspot AR3664 is almost completely out of view but continues to deliver fireworks. The latest blast comes in as an X3.48-class solar flare. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory captured footage of it in multiple wavelengths. The sunspot is no longer facing Earth, according to Spaceweather.com. Sun news for Jan. 13, 2024: A mighty 12 sunspot regions today! With Solar Max—the peak of the sun’s 11-year cycle—expected this year, even a so-called calm sun has a lot going on. Sun activity is low, with only C flares. Yet the sun has 12 active regions on its Earth-facing side. This is the highest number of active regions so far this year. We haven’t seen this many active regions on the sun since June 2023, when there were 16 labeled regions. This is just another sign that Solar Max is on its

Here is a sunspot rotation video courtesy of SDO/HMI between October 10th and today. This shows the evolution of big sunspot regions 4246 and 4248. Region 4246 has been by far the most active of the two regions having produced numerous M-Flares with the strongest so far being an M4.8 . The region continues to rotate closer towards the northwest limb, so any potential eruptions at this point would likely be directed mostly away from Earth. SolarHam.com | Space Weather by SolarHam

An incredible sunspot region located in the southern hemisphere is now rotating into view. This is not old sunspot region 4274 of course but a brand-new region that developed on the far side. We see an impressive sunspot region with a large cluster of sunspots in all shapes and sizes and it already announced itself with multiple M-class events the past few days while it was on the limb. We suspect that we might be looking at two different regions but it is hard to tell them apart at the moment s
