The stand throw is one of the best drills in the discus, but only if you do it correctly. Set up with your right foot just past the center, stay on the ball of the foot, and line your right heel up with your left toe. Then bring the discus back, start with the lower body, feel the stretch, and finish the throw. Don’t try to throw these hard. Use your first few stand throws to feel a smooth release and a clean flick off the fingers. Build rhythm first, then add speed. #discus #shotput

If you don’t understand the discus high point, you’re losing distance. Here’s everything you need to know. As your right foot lands in the middle, get the discus up as high as you can. This gives you more time and space to accelerate. Low discus = short path High discus = longer path and more speed So how do you create it? It starts from your legs. Stay level out of the back, then as you push off your left foot, drive up. That upward drive lifts the discus into the high point. From there, bring

How to throw absolute BOMBS in the discus 💣🔥 My athlete Joaquin is doing this perfectly right now. When his left foot hits the front… His shoulders are still back. His eyes are still back. The discus is way behind him. That’s the key. When the discus stays back, you create a long radius. A longer path to accelerate. More time to apply force. More time = more distance. Most of you land open. Your chest flies to the sector too early. You cut your orbit in half. Half the orbit. Half the time to a

Three things every discus thrower should study here. First: balance out of the back. Her shoulders stay level from the discus to the block arm. That straight line is what keeps her stacked and controlled. She’s not falling into the ring — she’s pushing off the left and storing force for later. Second: separation. She holds the sector with her eyes and chest until the left foot leaves the ground. That patience lets the right hip get way out in front of the discus, creating massive stretch and ela

Throwing hard is all about how well an athlete can utilize their center of mass to best capitalize on rotating. Jared Jones is an excellent example of demonstrating the importance of creating time in such ballistic movement like throwing. At the end of the day throwing is going from one foot to the other at a very high rate of acceleration. Rushing the beginning of the throw by shooting the center of mass too far and too early can result in the throw breaking down.

3 things you should steal from Daniel Ståhl 👇 First — look at how he carries the discus out the back. It’s high. Arm wide. Armpit around 90 degrees. That high carry sets up a bigger orbit. Bigger orbit = higher release point. Higher release = more distance. Most high school throwers carry it too low and collapse early. Don’t. Second — watch his left heel. It stays close to the ground out the back. He doesn’t bounce. He doesn’t float. That low sweep keeps him balanced and in control — especially
