Catching a giant isopod on the move is treat! Food is usually scarce in the cold, deep-sea natural habitat of these animals, so giant isopods are always in a state of semi-hibernation. This behavior allows them to limit the use of energy needed for movement and breathing and go long periods of time without eating.
