Union Pacific SD70ACe-T4 No. 3032. The SD70ACe-T4 is the Tier 4 emissions standards-compliant successor of the SD70ACe. The first locomotive, EMDX 1501, was built in summer 2015, and made its debut at the Railway Interchange Expo in Minneapolis, Minnesota during the weekend of October 3–4, 2015.

Rated at 4,300 hp, the SD70ACe was essentially a more environmentally friendly version of the builder’s SD70 series featuring EMD’s 16-cylinder model 710G3C-T2 engine, along with upgraded computer systems, electronics, and the builder’s famous self-steering trucks (the HTCR-II).

Union Pacific and BNSF Railway have the largest fleets of SD70ACe's - UP has 687, while BNSF has 650. The SD70ACe was the last type of production diesel locomotive produced by EMD under GM's ownership, and the first under CAT/Progress Rail.

Jul 3, 2015 · In April 2005, Union Pacific began complying with the new federal guidelines for better visibility at night by applying a yellow frame stripe to new locomotives, replacing UP's long-standing use of a red frame stripe. The first SD70Ace to receive the new yellow stripe was UP 8334, delivered on April 21, 2005.
