Dec 14, 2022 · Alongside his brother Art Christopher, Don Christopher helped co-found Christopher Ranch in 1956, according to Gilroy Life. Over the course of decades, the duo elevated the company to new heights, producing nearly 105 million lbs of garlic in 2022.

In 1956, as the San Jose area was beginning to build up, the third generation of Christophers — Don and his brother, Art, who was a silent partner in the operation — established the Christopher Ranch on 130 acres in Gilroy.

A few years later, in 1986, Garlic World was born. The store’s founders, Don Christopher and Carolyn Tognetti, transformed a large, rustic fruit stand at the south end of Gilroy alongside Highway 101, a main artery between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Christopher Ranch revolutionized the garlic industry with the introduction of consumer-friendly pre-peeled garlic. Peeled by harnessing the power of compressed air, our state-of-the-art facility is capable of generating over 500,000 pounds of finished product every week.
