Just in time for Amazon’s Prime Big Deals Day, Toyota is stepping away from the Prime label. As it did with the 2025 Toyota RAV4, the company is renaming the 2025 Toyota Prius with a plug. No longer the Prius Prime, it’s now the self-explanatory Prius Plug-in Hybrid.

Toyota is making a significant change to its naming convention for its plug-in hybrid vehicles. As of Thursday, the Japanese automaker announced that the “Prime” branding, previously used for the plug-in hybrid versions of its RAV4 and Prius models,

The RAV4 PHEV offers the same 42 electric miles as last year's model, only it no longer wears the Prime badge.

For model year 2025, the model keeps on going with its winning blend of powerful electric and hybrid driving but flips the switch to a new name: Prius Plug-in Hybrid. The change to the Prius Plug-in name is intended to help consumers more easily identify the powertrain choices among Prius models.

The Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime are no more—well, at least, their names are no more. If you're looking for a plug-in hybrid Toyota, however, your search just got easier, because they've been renamed to the more obvious "Plug-In Hybrid,
