After a fairly quiet NBA trade deadline by the Boston Celtics, the defending champs will now hit the buyout market to fill at least one open roster spot

The Boston Celtics traded guard Jaden Springer to the Houston Rockets, parting ways with the 23-year-old wing defender just a year after acquiring him at last season's trade deadline. The Celtics received a conditional 2031 second-round pick in the deal and will send a 2030 second-round pick and conditional 2027 second-round pick to the Rockets.

The Boston Celtics fell to the Dallas Mavericks, a rematch of the 2025 finals that saw the Celtics capture a coveted 18th NBA title. With the 127-120 loss, Boston's win streak ends at four games. The Celtics never really locked in for this one.

The Celtics are 9-1 against the Mavericks in their past 10 games, the only loss coming in Game 4 of the NBA Finals last season.

Neither the Celtics nor the Mavericks will be at full strength for Thursday's NBA Finals rematch at TD Garden.
