Ethan Guo, a 19-year-old pilot from Memphis, Tennessee, was detained and charged with submitting a false flight plan before heading to the South Pole, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic Region.

A teenage pilot, who is attempting to fly across seven continents solo, hit a patch of rough air this weekend when Chilean authorities detained him for changing his flight plan without their permission and landing in Antarctica.

Ethan Guo, a 19-year-old aviator from Memphis, was detained and charged with submitting a false flight plan before traversing towards the South Pole on June 28, the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic Prosecutor’s Office. Guo is aiming to raise $1 million for cancer research with his high-flying campaign across the globe.
