Latin America’s biggest economy can weather the shock of a high tariff rate. But American coffee lovers and Brazilian ranchers are likely to feel the pain.

VASSOURAS, Brazil (Reuters) -Coffee growers in Vassouras, in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro state, are hoping for an eleventh-hour reprieve before the country is subject to tariffs of 50% on its exports to the United States.

Brazil estimates that 35.9% of its exports to the United States will face a steep 50% tariff under a new executive order from President Donald Trumps administration, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin said Thursday.
