MOSCOW, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Protesters in Georgia's Russia-backed breakaway region of Abkhazia declined on Saturday to leave the parliament building which they stormed the previous day, a departure proposed by the region's president as a condition for resigning.

Protesters in the separatist region of Abkhazia, Georgia stormed the parliament building to demand the region's president step down and reject an investment agreement that could benefit wealthy Russians.

Protesters stormed the parliament of the Russian-backed breakaway Georgian region of Abkhazia on Friday and demanded the resignation of its leader over an unpopular investment agreement with Moscow.

Abkhazia is a separatist region internationally recognised as part of Georgia, but seen as independent by Russia and its allies. It broke away from Georgia and tilted towards Russian rule following the collapse of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s.
