A longtime character actor known for his role in “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” is dead at age 83. John Capodice, who played a police officer named Aguado opposite Jim Carrey in 1994′s “Ace Ventura” movie, died Monday, according to the Pizzi Funeral Home in New Jersey. A cause of death was not announced.

Born in Chicago in 1941, Capodice turned to acting after military service in South Korea in the 1960s. His first television role was in the daytime soap “Ryan’s Hope,” where he appeared in six episodes as Lloyd Lord, Y!Entertainment said. Later, in the 1990s, he appeared in six episodes of “General Hospital.”
