It’s only been a week since Pope Leo XIV won the papal conclave and took home the coveted title of pontifex, and he’s already hit a new career milestone. On Tuesday, May 13, he made his Instagram debut with a 17-image carousel post from his busy first week on the job.

Pope Leo XIV encouraged the media to reject the "confusion of loveless languages that are often ideological or partisan" and "strive for a different kind of communication, one that does not seek consensus at all costs.

In his first encounter with journalists as pope, Leo called on the news media to highlight the “voices of the weak who have no voice.”
