Nighttime lows for the week are expected to be below zero with the wind chill, and daytime highs won't top 20 degrees in some areas in the region.

Counties along Lake Michigan's shoreline and the eastern U.P. are under a winter weather advisory until Wednesday morning, Jan. 28, for heavy lake-effect snow, from 2-7 inches. Winds up to 35 mph are expected to blow snow around causing white outs.

An extreme cold warning in Michigan has expanded to the Lower Peninsula as subzero wind chills sweep southward Friday, Jan. 23.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across all of Southeast Michigan from Monday into Tuesday morning as snow showers and blowing snow combine with bitterly cold air.

The National Weather Service has issued winter weather warnings across much of Michigan.

Officials warned drivers to urge caution as a "prolonged" lake effect snow band was leading to "rapid changes" in weather conditions ahead of the afternoon and evening commutes.
