The Heritage Restaurant Group of Newport is working to acquire the property, and will shutter the long-held Italian restaurant in its first acquisition beyond its broad Aquidneck Island portfolio.

Old Canteen, an icon of Federal Hill, is set to close. The Providence Journal reports the restaurant has been bought by the Heritage Restaurant Group.
