The "Alien" franchise has been frightening moviegoers for more than 40 years. Now, showrunner Noah Hawley brings a new storyline to streaming platforms with "Alien: Earth."

Both new and familiar alien lifeforms lurk around in the Disney series “Alien: Earth,” based on the original 1979 Ridley Scott "Alien" movie.

The franchise’s timeline has become increasingly confusing since the initial film was released in the late 1970s. The new FX series slots comfortably into the growing tangle, a couple of years before “Alien” takes place.
