The Philadelphia Eagles are set to release six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay, a person familiar with the decision said Monday. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team has not yet announced the decision.

The Philadelphia Eagles are releasing veteran cornerback Darius Slay, according to CBS Sports lead NFL Insider Jonathan Jones. This ends a decorated five-season stint with Philadelphia, which included three Pro Bowl nods and, most recently, a win in Super Bowl LIX.

Slay ultimately won't be given that chance as the Eagles elected to move on from the six-time Pro Bowler. Much of that decision can likely be attributed to the quick development of cornerbacks, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, who made Slay a luxury the team couldn't afford.

Slay had indicated he wants to play more than one season, with a preference for that to happen in Philadelphia or Detroit.

The Super Bowl champion Eagles are reportedly parting with one of their top defenders in an effort to save salary cap space.

Darius Slay‘s decorated tenure with the Eagles is coming to an end. The Pro Bowl corner will be released, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. Such a scenario has been raised recently, meaning the move does not come as a complete surprise.
