The Buffalo Sabres started their four-game Western road swing inauspiciously, struggling with a questionable effort in a 6-4 loss to the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena on Monday. This was the second time Buffalo had lost to Seattle this month.

Nathan MacKinnon, the NHL leader in points, had tied the game with 1:08 left in the second with his 18th goal of the season. Blackwood came off for an extra skater for the last 3:27 but the Avs couldn't score.

The Sabres staged a comeback in the second period, tying the score at 3-3 on goals from Jason Zucker and Thompson. Once again, the Kraken responded quickly, with defenseman Jamie Oleksiak pinching down from the offensive blue line to bury a one-timer just 56 seconds after Thompson had scored the tying goal.

Less than a minute later, the Kraken were back in front as Oleksiak finished off a play started by the good work behind the goal by Jared McCann and Shane Wright. McCann won a puck away from Buffalo’s Owen Power along the boards, passed to Wright and the young center found Oleksiak flashing between the circles for his fourth goal.

The Seattle Kraken hosted the Buffalo Sabres for their second meeting in ten days. It was the Kraken who were once again victorious against Buffalo, defeating them 6-4.

Seattle has a 7-1 record all-time against the Sabres and has outscored them, 40-24. And remember, this is a fourth-year franchise that has only made the playoffs once and isn't likely to get there this year either.
