Oregon has more unaffiliated voters than Republicans or Democrats — meaning a significant chunk of voters can’t participate in the state’s partisan primary elections and ultimately have no say on which major party nominees end up on general election ballots.
According to Legislative Administration, the Oregon Legislative Information System, or OLIS, 11,752 testimonies were uploaded between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday with 5,100 on SB 210 alone. Prior to Monday, there had been an average of about 1,000 testimonies uploaded per day during the 2025 session.
Under the bill, Oregon would still hold a special election allowing voters to pick the replacement for an outgoing senator. This bill specifies the election has to happen between 80 and 150 days after a senator leaves office.
