The Jackson County and Kansas City, Missouri, election boards filed a lawsuit Thursday to stop a special Aug. 26 election on the recall of Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr.

A new lawsuit has urged the court to step in as the debate continues on when to set the recall election for Jackson County Executive Frank White. A petition filed on Thursday, July 10, has revealed that the Jackson County and Kansas City Election Boards have asked the Jackson County Circuit Court to intervene in the election date debate for the potential recall of Jackson County Executive Frank White.

The Jackson County Election Board and Kansas City Election Board are seeking a court order to delay a planned Aug. 26 recall election for Frank White.

Vicki Schmidt announced her candidacy Wednesday, ending months of speculation over whether she would seek the job.

White’s letter to the Jackson County Legislature suggested the recall election be placed on the ballot in August 2026 or November 2026.
