James Gunn’s “Superman” is flying into theaters this month with David Corenswet in the title role and Nicholas Hoult as the villainous Lex Luthor. But that wasn’t the role Hoult auditioned for. The “Nosferatu” and “X-Men” star originally sought the role of Superman but lost out to Corenswet in auditions.

The 'Nosferatu' actor ended up landing the role of Lex Luthor, and the actor who landed the title role was glad he did because "a superhero is only as interesting as their villain."

James Gunn revealed the reason for not casting Nicholas Hoult in Superman, saying he just did not fit in the role. He also shared Hoult’s chemistry tests.
