The world no 20 took the first set with ease, yet Osaka hit back to prevail 1-6 6-1 6-3 in front of a vociferous crowd at Melbourne Park
Two-time Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka says she took out a "little revenge" after coming back to beat Czech 20th seed Karolina Muchova.
A four-time Grand Slam champion, Osaka returned from maternity leave last year and lost in the first or second round of all four major tournaments. The 27-year-old Japan native has not won any event on the WTA Tour since capturing her second Australian Open title to start 2021.
Osaka's triumph over Muchova will now see her make her first appearance in the third round of a grand slam since the 2022 Australian Open.
Former Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka fought back from a set down Wednesday to reach the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time since the birth of her daughter in 2023, gaining a "little revenge" for defeat at the U.
"I was so mad", recalled the four-time major winner at the Australian Open Wednesday after losing in New York to the Czech.
Zheng Qinwen admits it was not her day as she was beaten in the Australian Open second round in the biggest shock of the tournament so far.
