"It has been reported that the Giants were one of the finalists to land Burnes, but missed out when he signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks. After reportedly offering over $210 million to sign Burnes, the Giants could potentially take half of that money and use it towards signing Flaherty instead," Finkelstein wrote.

He went 13-7 with a 3.17 ERA in 28 starts while posting a 3.1 WAR and striking out 194 batters. The right-hander was traded from the Tigers to the Dodgers at the deadline and he helped guide Los Angeles to a World Series title, even pitching a gem in Game 1.
