Bob Uecker, the Hall of Fame baseball broadcaster with a quick wit and an unending love of the game, died Thursday. He was 90. Uecker had been battling small cell lung cancer since 2023, his family told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Uecker, who died Thursday at 90, used to sit in the bullpen at Connie Mack Stadium and deliver play-by-play commentary into a beer cup.

Bob Uecker, who died on Jan. 15, 2025 at age 90, was a former catcher who played for the Braves in Milwaukee and Atlanta, St. Louis Cardinals and the Phillies (1966-67) during a six-year career in the Majors.

In 1956, Uecker signed with the Eau Claire Braves for $250 a month and $6 dollars a day for meals. Uecker saying in his book “Catcher in the Wry”, that money was “just enough to keep you from gnawing on the table leg at your favorite cafe”.
