Heavy flooding turns streets into rivers at Canary Islands holiday spots
Tourists have been warned to stay indoors as heavy flooding swept debris through the streets of the Canary Islands. Video and pictures from the town of Telde, one of the worst hit areas on the eastern half of Gran Canaria, showed cars being swept out to sea by muddy flood waters.

Cars swept out to sea as floods hit Gran Canaria
The town of Telde in the east of the island was particularly hard hit with heavy downpours. Cars were swept away into ravines and into the sea by torrents of floodwater. Around 32mm of rain fell in Telde, with higher amounts falling in the surrounding mountains. The average rainfall for March here is 13mm.
