The head of Homeland Security said people will still be allowed to fly without compliant ID after this week's REAL ID deadline.

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said air travelers starting Wednesday who do not have enhanced ID cards may face enhanced security procedures but will not be denied access to flights.

Domestic flyers will be required to show a Real ID or another acceptable form of ID come May 7. Yahoo News answers some frequently asked questions about the program.

Real ID deadline is May 7, 2025. You'll need it to fly domestically, but there are other documents that are acceptable in the meantime.

U.S. airports will require travelers to present a Real ID at TSA checkpoints, military bases and secure federal buildings. Many North Texas DPS offices are booked for months for ID renewals, but you can use a passport for domestic flights in the meantime.
