Pope Francis, a reformer who rattled the Catholic Church's conservatives and inspired some progressives, has died.

He was a populist leader, often referred to as the "People's Pope." As pontiff, Francis, who died Monday at age 88, sought to bring the Church closer to the people, stating early in his papacy that he wanted to have a poorer Church "for the poor.
