For years now, rumors have been circulating about a Ford Mustang sedan coming out. But there are all kinds of crazy rumors in the auto industry, some started by automakers to gauge potential interest in a future product.

Ford recently filed the name "Mach 4" with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on February 25. The application states that the name applies to gasoline and electric automobiles, pickup trucks, SUVs, and their structural parts. A new trademark filing for "Mach 4" suggests the Mustang sedan could be in active development.

If or when the Mach 4 actually arrives, not only will it be the first production sedan Mustang ever, but it will likely be the first sedan in the Ford’s U.S. lineup in years. Dearborn has not offered one of those in this country since the Fusion departed the scene in 2020.
