Police arrested a 30-year-old man in India’s financial capital Mumbai whom they said was considered the prime suspect in the stabbing of Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan.

The arrest came days after Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his home in Mumbai. Police say the suspect is a Bangladeshi national who entered India illegally.

MUMBAI (Reuters) - Police in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh on Saturday detained a second person suspected of involvement in a knife attack in which Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was wounded.

Indian police have changed their statement regarding the identity of the man accused of attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan with a knife. The suspect, initially identified as 31-year-old Akash Kanojia, was arrested while traveling on a train from Chhattisgarh to Mumbai.

The Mumbai police said crucial CCTV footage from a mobile shop in Dadar helped them identify the accused as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad.

A 30-year-old man held in the Saif Ali Khan attack case was on Sunday sent to police custody by a Mumbai court till January 24. The accused was produced before a holiday court in Bandra at 1:30pm by the Mumbai Police.

Mumbai Police have arrested the man accused of attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The suspect, identified as Vijay Das, was apprehended in the Hiranandani area of Thane after an extensive search involving 35 police teams.
