The Federal Railroad Administration initiated a review of California's 400-mile high-speed rail project aimed at connecting Los Angeles to San Francisco following concerns voiced by the Trump Administration,

The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) has received several funding grants for the project from the federal government under the Biden administration in recent years, including a $US 3.1bn Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail Grant, the single largest federal allocation for the project, in December 2023.

So far, $15.7 billion has been invested in the project, with $2.7 billion spent by the federal government. Duffy said he is directing the Federal Railroad Administration to investigate whether the Trump administration should keep the Biden administration’s promise to give an additional $4 billion.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced Thursday that the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) will conduct a comprehensive review of the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) to determine whether $4 billion in federal taxpayer funds should remain committed to the embattled project.

The transportation secretary, Sean Duffy, said the government would conduct a “compliance review” on a $3.1 billion grant, potentially threatening the viability of the troubled project.
