Fayetteville police are investigating a shooting Monday evening that left one man dead, a news release from the Fayetteville Police Department stated. Officers responded to the shooting before 10 p.m.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. On Tuesday, FPD identified him as Malakai Woods, 20, of Fayetteville. Police said the shooting was not random and that Woods and the suspect knew each other.

There’s no word yet on whether anybody is in custody, but police said the suspect and the victim knew each other.

Malakai Woods, 20, of Fayetteville, was found suffering from a gunshot wound and pronounced dead by medics, the news release stated. “This was not a random incident,” authorities said.
