Paramount+ is beaming us into a new generation of “Star Trek” with the premiere of its series “Star Trek: Starfleet.”

It's one of the most perilous challenges any crew can take on in the modern Star Trek universe: Building a new series around a bunch of characters who do not include Captain Kirk or Mr. Spock.

Neither show would rank near the top of most anyone's "Best of 'Star Trek'" lists, but that only makes it even bolder and more commendable that this show's creative team would lean so heavily on both.
