Democrats protested Vought’s nomination overnight Wednesday on the Senate floor, with several referring to him as Trump’s “most dangerous nominee.”

Powerless to stop the president or Russell Vought, the nominee to lead the White House budget office, Democrats pulled an all-nighter to show their opposition.

While Democrats don’t have the Senate votes to tank Trump nominees, they can derail the chamber’s day-to-day functions.

Washington Democratic Sen. Patty Murray, ranking member on the Appropriations Committee, said if confirmed, Vought will “trample all over the separation of powers, will ignore the authority of Congress and will hurt the American people by holding back funds they rely on.”

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) and other Democrats took turns speaking on the Senate floor all night through Thursday morning to delay the confirmation vote for Russell Vought, President Donald Trump’s Office of Management and Budget director pick.

Senate Democrats are bracing to stay in the chamber overnight to make the case against the nomination of Russell Vought to serve as the White House’s next budget chief, who is expected to be confirmed later this week.
