Northern Illinois University (NIU) released data showing that its Rockford Promise Scholars are thriving. NIU’s first-year retention rate for Promise Scholars is 85%. This is because of the resources the organizations offer.

The University at Buffalo football team, under first-year head coach Pete Lembo, shocks 23rd-ranked Northern Illinois in DeKalb with a 23-20 win in overtime.

"I know to the outside world, people are still talking about that game," NIU coach Thomas Hammock said. "We moved on last week."

That loss to Northern Illinois by Notre Dame isn't looking any better for the Fighting Irish after Saturday. NIU played host to the Buffalo Bulls in a MAC game and were upended, 23-20, in overtime. Buffalo's winning margin came on a 37-yard field goal by Upton Bellenfant.
