New Nintendo Switch 2 consoles will have replaceable battery

Today, June 5, is the first anniversary of the Switch 2, Nintendo’s successor to its best-selling console ever. The hybrid handheld has seen its share of highs and lows since launch, and it still feels like it hasn’t fully found its groove.

It's a rough time for game consoles, but Nintendo's Switch sequel now seems like a better proposition than it did in 2025.

But the hike is also going into effect at just about the worst possible time, as the holiday months remain a huge sales period for game consoles, Nintendo included. So you know things are bad if Nintendo is willing to potentially disrupt that success by making the Switch 2 more expensive.

Nintendo said the price of the Switch 2 in the U.S. will rise from $449.99 to $499.99. In Japan, Nintendo will hike the price from 49,980 yen to 59,980 yen.
