The first chance to close their playoff series was a bust for the Anaheim Ducks. The second opportunity will be Thursday on home ice when they play host to the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6 of their Western Conference first-round series.
The Anaheim Ducks were unable to close out the experienced Edmonton Oilers in Game 5 of their first round series on Tuesday night.
After trailing 3-0 in the first period in Game 5, the Ducks must respond early Thursday at Honda Center in hopes of avoiding a Game 7 north of the border.
A three-goal first period, opened by Vasily Podkolzin 2:22 after puck drop, staked the Oilers out to an advantage they didn’t waste. That represented a crucial shift from Game 4, a 4-3 Anaheim overtime win in which the Oilers gave up leads of 2-0 and 3-2.
The Oilers now trail the best-of-seven Western Conference playoff series 3-2 with Game 6 in Anaheim.
