Three news organizations that had been blocked from accessing the White House by President Donald Trump asked a federal judge to extend an order that temporarily restored their access after they had been barred for almost a week.

And now pool access has become the battleground, with networks facing tough choices as the standoff persists with a president who, in his second term, has become increasingly willing to go to extreme lengths — in the courts, in the regulatory system and in his public statements — to quash coverage that he doesn’t like.

Trump flew to Tennessee to watch the football matchup between the University of Tennessee and the University of Texas. Joining him on Air Force One was Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn, and his ever-present aide Natalie Harp, among others.

The outlets alleged the Trump administration has “persisted in unpredictably and inconsistently implementing its ban,” citing CNN’s exclusion from its pool duty.
