As beach towns go, Dauphin Island, Alabama, is relatively sleepy. Unlike nearby Gulf Shores or Panama City Beach, Florida, it has no water parks or mini-golf courses, and only two high-rise hotels.

There's plenty of public beach on Dauphin Island, so you'll need to bring sunscreen and umbrellas. The island is 14 miles long and very narrow so take time to explore it all.
