Officials say a Southwest Airlines flight almost took off from a taxiway — rather than a runway — at a central Florida airport on Thursday before an air traffic controller stopped the plane.

An air traffic controller at the Florida airport canceled the takeoff clearance for Southwest Flight 3278 around 9:30 a.m. after the aircraft began its takeoff roll on a taxiway that runs parallel to the runway, the FAA said.

Air traffic control at Orlando International airport cancelled the take-off clearance for a Southwest Airlines-operated Boeing 737 that began its take-off roll on a taxiway.
