Jessie Thompson says she resigned as Volusia County School Board chair after much prayer, but intends to continue as a board member to support students and represent "teachers and parents who feel like they haven't been heard.

Jessie Thompson, chair of the Volusia County School Board, is stepping down from her leadership role after facing backlash for criticizing students in her district.

It is not known exactly why Jessie Thompson is stepping down as school board chair, but Thompson came under fire in December after Deltona’s mayor shared a video of Thompson’s remarks at a Moms for Liberty Summit last August.

This comes after she was under fire for controversial comments she made about students and other board members.
