The hybrid Crosstrek is likely to deliver much higher mpg with better acceleration and no sacrifice in capability.

Subaru hasn’t discussed fuel economy ratings for the new 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid, but given how the gasoline-only models perform and based on estimates set by the company for the larger and heavier Forester Hybrid, it should get 35 mpg in combined driving (if not more).

All trim levels of Subaru’s new hybrid will get X-Mode, which uses individual wheel braking to route power to the wheels with the best grip. If you have X-Mode, the corresponding counterpart to that is Hill Descent Control, which gets you back down whatever you just climbed up.

The Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid returns for model year 2026 as a self-charging hybrid rather than the plug-in hybrid it used to be
