Storm Herminia has led the Met Office to issue a host of new weather warnings for the UK this morning, with heavy rain and wind expected to hit the country over the next 24 hours

Yellow weather warnings for wind and heavy rain have been issued for large parts of the UK as a new storm is set to wreak havoc following Éowyn last week.

Storm Herminia has brought wind and heavy rain to much of Wales and southern England, with a major incident being declared in Somerset. More than 100 people have been evacuated in the south-western county following flooding in the early hours of Monday, as well as power cuts across the region.

The UK was still recovering from the fierce impact of Storm Eowyn last week before Storm Herminia blows into southern areas, bringing 80mph winds. Herminia, named by meteorologists in Spain, has not been as powerful as Eowyn, which brought with it a jet stream so powerful it pushed a British Airways flight to a speed of 814mph.

The Met Office has issued multiple yellow weather warnings as Storm Herminia, named by the Spanish meteorological office, batters the UK.

A further yellow wind warning stretching from the south coast up to north east England is in place from 10pm on Sunday until 7am on Monday, while a rain warning covering southern and central England and Wales is in place until 6am on Monday. Another rain warning over most of Wales will remain in place until 11:59pm on Monday.

Hundreds of homes are without power and flood alerts have been issued as Storm Herminia hits Wales. A Met Office alert for heavy rain began at midday Sunday and remains in place until the end of Monday.

Storm Herminia has unleashed powerful winds of up to 83mph across Britain as well as prolonged rainfall, as Met Office weather warnings remain in place for most of England and Wales. More than 50 flood warnings have been issued by the Environment Agency,
