A growing willingness among Israeli news media to critically explore the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has all but evaporated in recent weeks after militant group Hamas released videos of two emaciated Israeli hostages.

A Health Ministry report described the systematic starvation, as well as physical and emotional torture, carried out by Hamas terrorists on hostages released from Gaza earlier this year. The lives of the remaining living hostages in Gaza are under an immediate threat due to physical and mental torture carried out by their Hamas captors,

Hamas said it was prepared to coordinate with the Red Cross to deliver aid to hostages it holds in Gaza, if Israel meets certain conditions.

Relatives of captives held by Hamas excoriated the Israeli government for what they called “an endless war without purpose.” It was unclear how many would join them.

Families of Israeli hostages kept captive in Gaza are calling for a nationwide general strike next Sunday, in protest of the Israeli security cabinet’s recent decision to expand the war and take over Gaza City.
