The Hillsborough County’s cold weather shelters program announced four shelters will open Monday night through Thursday night, Jan. 9. The shelters will accommodate the homeless and those who live in homes without adequate heat and cannot find other accommodations, Hillsborough County said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - With temperatures expected to dip below 40 degrees Fahrenheit this week, Hillsborough County is activating its cold weather shelters program to provide refuge for those in need.

Hillsborough County officials announced that they will be opening four cold weather shelters amid Saturday's frigid temperatures in the Tampa Bay area. These shelters will be open for the homeless and those who live in homes without adequate heat who are unable to find any other accommodations,

Pinellas County opens its cold night shelters when the “feels like” temperature drops below 40 degrees anytime from Nov. 15 through March 15. Any rider denied a free fare to a cold night shelter should ask the driver to contact PSTA dispatch.

Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Sarasota counties are opening their cold weather shelters on Monday and Tuesday.

The coldest air of the season will likely impact much of the state during the next week. Cold weather shelters are open throughout the area.

With the Upstate and western North Carolina seeing cold, wintery temperatures, shelters are opening to help people stay warm.
