(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The closing of an Aldi grocery store in the West Pullman neighborhood has angered an alderman who says the company broke a promise. The store at 115th and Halsted Streets abruptly closed on Sunday. Ald. Ronnie Mosely (21st) is not happy.

Ald. Ronnie Mosley (21st) said the closure is a breaking of a promise that Aldi would remain in the neighborhood.

The sudden closure of West Pullman’s Aldi, 821 W. 115th St., came one year after Ald. Ronnie Mosley (21st) met with company representatives who “assured our community that they were here to stay,” Mosley said in a statement. At the time, Aldi leaders said they also intended to remodel and expand the store, Mosley said.

Aldi is in an all-out expansion blitz, but for some Chicago residents it feels like a different story. The discount grocery chain abruptly closed its store in West Pullman on Sunday, just six weeks after shutting down another location in Lincoln Park.

Alderman Mosley also expressed concern for residents and pledged to work towards bringing back quality food options to the neighborhood.
