The Library was established in 1869 with the founding of the Museum. Since then, it has grown into one of the largest natural history libraries in the world, with a collection spanning a wide array of the natural sciences.The Library's primary function is to serve and support the work of the Museum's scientific staff. It also serves scholars from around the world, as well as interested members of the general public.
