The hike to get here almost killed me. Be sure to bring adequate gear, water, food and all-weather gear. Not for the faint of heart, two miles straight up. Beers at the bottom at the ski lodge.Full review by pattie1113

Tough hike, but worth it in the end! Take snacks and lots of water and sit awhile at the lake to take in all of the beauty around you!Full review by duannae

It usef to be Gallagher's Stable on High Street, catty-corner to Bitter Creek Road entering the Valley. Back in the early 70s when I was doing mountain tours and fishing trips for red river tour's on Main Street and Bitter Creek. In the summers of '73, '74 and '75, only I and two other Drivers were allowed by tge Forestry Service to drive up the 23 switchbacks up to Middlefork. It was decent enought fishing, but not as good as Goose above and between Red River and the Taos Ski Valley, or Cabresto or the Latirs up east above Questa. But it was a much more interesting road and one that produced a lot of tips we got him down safe to the valley. I put my fat tours on the left side of the jeep behind me with tended to take them off at the beginning but by the time we cleared slippery rock above the lower Falls they were quiet and by the time we pulled up to the lake they were thanking me. By the time I got them back to the lodges in cabins they were just about ready name their new children after me, and maybe some of their existing ones! Middle for is worth seeing, however you get there. And running down the Middle Fork Falls to Slippery Rock is a hoot, you don't want to go over that bottom falls, because even though it looks inviting, there's a good chance you'll break your leg or your neck. And it is snowmelt... Matter of a fact the Texas musician who used to drive River Tours a year or two before I started, Ray Wylie Hubbard, rolled his Jeep off slippery Rock into the pool. Fortunately nobody was hurt badly and Ray round up having that Jeep named after him by our Boss, Gene Addison. Gene claimed Ray wrote his early Austin Country Scene hit "Up Against the Wall, Redneck Mother" after him, but I never ask Ray. Howdy Ray, if you or the Survivors stumble across this. Wm. A.
